PM orders termination of illegal, unreported, unregulated fishing no later than this year’s end
VGP – Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh ordered subordinate levels to put an end to illegal, unreported, unregulated (IUU) fishing activities not later than this year’s end while chairing an online meeting on September 7.

The PM required localities including Quang Tri, Tra Vinh, Quang Ninh and Ha Tinh to urgently complete installing VMS device on local fishing vessels.
All coastal localities must strictly control fishing vessels in and out of fishing ports, supervise the output of aquatic products unloading through the port and certify the origin of aquatic products, Pham emphasized.
He underscored the role of communes, wards and towns in 28 coastal localities in encouraging and communicating local residents to soon end IUU fishing activities.
As many as 27,628 fishing vessels equipped with vessel monitoring system (VMS) device, accounting for 90.26 percent, according to the report of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development.
The aquatic sector has the annual output of 9 million tons, with annual export turnover of US$8.5-9 billion.
The country sets goal to raise the total seafood output to 10 million tons and export value to around US$14-16 billion by 2030.
