PM meets with parliament speaker and President of Austria
VGP – Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc met with President of the Austrian parliament, Wolfgang Sobotka, and paid a courtesy visit to Austrian President, Alexander Van der Bellen, on October 15, as part of his ongoing visit to the European country.

At a meeting with the top Austrian legislator, PM Phuc affirmed that Viet Nam always considers Austria its important and reliable partner in Europe, and wishes to boost bilateral ties in an extensive, effective and comprehensive fashion.
He highly appreciated the role played by the legislative bodies in promoting relations between the two countries, while applauding the Austrian parliament’s establishment of the Austria-South Asia and Southeast Asia Parliamentary Group, which, he said, contributes to strengthening Austria’s legislative relations with the region and Viet Nam.
PM Phuc asked the Austrian parliament and the parliamentary group to support Viet Nam to enhance comprehensive cooperation with the EU and facilitate the early signing and ratification of the Viet Nam-EU Free Trade Agreement (EVFTA).
President of the Austrian parliament, Wolfgang Sobotka, welcomed the visit made by PM Phuc, hailing this as a new milestone in relations between the two countries.

* Later the same day, PM Phuc paid a courtesy visit to Austrian President, Alexander Van der Bellen, during which the two leaders agreed that more active and effective measures are needed to strengthen bilateral ties.
President Alexander Van der Bellen said Austria values friendly relations and cooperation with Viet Nam in the complementary fields, affirming that the establishment of a representative office of the Austrian Federal Economic Chamber (WKO) in Ho Chi Minh City is a vivid evidence for Austria’s interest in the Vietnamese market.
The two sides discussed regional and international issues of mutual concern, including the East Sea issue, and cooperation at the UN, ASEM, and ASEAN-EU forums. They shared viewpoints on the importance of maintaining peace, stability, security, and maritime and aviation safety and freedom in the East Sea, highlighting the principle of handling disputes by peaceful means and in accordance with international law, including the UN Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS).
