PM meets with Australian counterpart on COP26 sidelines

VGP – Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh met with Australian counterpart Scott Morrison on November 1 on the sidelines of the 26th United Nations Climate Change Conference of the Parties (COP).

In a sincere and open atmosphere, the two PMs discussed bilateral cooperation, regional and international issues of shared interest.

They noted with pleasure at the positive growth of the Viet Nam-Australia strategic partnership across all fields, especially economy, trade and COVID-19 response.

Pham thanked Australian Government and PM Morrison for timely donation of vaccine and medical supplies, considering this a testament to the fine relationship between the two countries. Morrison affirmed his country will continue sharing 3.7 million doses of COVID-19 vaccines with Viet Nam.

Pham suggested Australia continue assistance for Viet Nam in transport infrastructure development, climate change response, digital transformation, renewable energy, pledging that Viet Nam will work with the Australian side to contribute to the success of the COP26.

Morrison welcomed Viet Nam’s contributions to the joint efforts against climate change, inviting Pham to attend the green energy supply chain summit hosted by Australia in 2022

On regional and international issues, both sides agreed to maintain close cooperation at multilateral forums and shared the views on ensuring security, safety, and freedom of navigation and aviation over oceans and seas, including the East Sea on the basis of the principles of international law.

Morrison affirmed support for the ASEAN centrality and the ASEAN Outlook on the Indo-Pacific (AOIP).

The two sides agreed to maintain the exchange of delegations at all levels, in-person and online contacts./.
