PM meets Lao General Secretary, NA Chairwoman

VGP – PM Nguyen Tan Dung on September 14 met with Lao Party General Secretary and President Choummaly Sayasone and Chairwoman of the National Assembly Pany Yathotu during his working visit to Laos.

The Lao leaders praised Viet Nam’s achievements in socio-economic development and diplomacy and thanked Viet Nam’s assistance for Laos during its national establishment and development process.

PM Dung hoped that Laos will successfully organize the 10thCongress of the Lao People's Revolutionary Party and fulfill its role as ASEAN Chair in 2016.

The two sides affirmed that the two Parties, Governments, National Assemblies and peoples attach importance and give priority to strengthening the traditional and comprehensive relations between the two nations.

They highlighted their close cooperation in politics through exchanging delegations at all levels and supporting each other in organizing the 132nd Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU).

The hosts and the guest lauded developments in such areas as trade, culture, education and training, science and technology, transport and agriculture and agreed to raise the two-way trade turnover to US$2 billion in 2015 as well as implement the freshly- inked Memorandum of Understanding on a cooperative strategy in transport in the 2016-2025 phase, with a vision to 2030.

They were unanimous in enhancing cooperation in telecommunications, education, culture and health, including the improvement of quality and effectiveness of Viet Nam-Laos cooperation in education and human resource development in  2011-2020.

The two sides consented to uphold the role of the National Assembly in reviewing mechanisms, policies and laws to facilitate investment and trade between the two nations’ businesses and creating favorable conditions for overseas Vietnamese in Laos.

They exchanged issued of international and regional concerns, approving accelerated coordination within the framework of ASEAN to raise the bloc's role in addressing regional issues and the East Sea issue.
