Pham affirmed Viet Nam attaches importance to strengthening substantial cooperation with the United Kingdom.
He spoke highly of Scotland efforts to successfully shift to renewable energy over the last decade with renewables meeting 97 percent of Scotland’s electricity demand in 2020.
Pham expects Scotland to help Viet Nam transit to renewable energy through sharing experience, providing scholarships to Vietnamese students and sending experts to assist the Southeast Asian country in this area.
Sturgeon warmly welcomed PM Pham to the COP26 as well as Viet Nam’s contributions to the joint efforts against climate change.
Both sides expressed their pleasure at the robust growth of trade between Viet Nam and the UK despite the difficulties posed by the COVID-19 pandemic. The UK-Viet Nam free trade agreement signed in May this year opens up greater opportunities for the two countries to further enhance trade and investment ties.
PM Pham asked Scotland to create favorable conditions for Vietnamese products to penetrate Scotland, and encouraged Scottish investors to expand investment in Viet Nam.
Regarding the COVID-19 pandemic, the two sides underlined the necessity of cooperation and fair access to vaccines. PM Pham suggested Scotland share vaccines, medical equipment and supplies to help Viet Nam in the fight against the pandemic./.
