PM attends opening ceremony of 18th ASEAN Summit
VGP – Vietnamese PM Nguyễn Tấn Dũng, Indonesian President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono and other leaders of ASEAN members attended the opening ceremony of the 18th ASEAN Summit in Indonesia on May 7.

Addressing the ceremony, Indonesian President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono warmly welcomed all leaders and partners to the summit, regarding it as a historic momentum for stronger cooperation among ASEAN members in the future.
In the context of rising transnational challenges, ASEAN needs to strengthen internal and international cooperation to cope with such challenges as traditional and non-traditional security, global economic instability, energy and food security, climate change, crime and terrorism, stressed President Yudhoyono.
During the summit, themed “ASEAN Community in a Global Community”, ASEAN leaders will discuss orientations and solutions to speed up the roadmap of building the ASEAN Community, strengthen cooperation with external partners as well as boost the role of ASEAN in the global community.
After the opening ceremony, PM Dũng and other ASEAN leaders met representatives of the ASEAN Inter-Parliamentary Assembly (AIPA), ASEAN youth and ASEAN Civil Society Organizations (CSOs).
