Phu Quoc Island to launch English training for local residents ahead of APEC 2027
VGP – Authorities in Phu Quoc Special Zone in the southern province of An Giang have announed a project to train English for local residents in a bid to prepare for the APEC Economic Leaders' Meeting in 2027.
The move aims to help local residents to communicate more effectively with foreign visitors and official delegates to the APEC Economic Leaders' Meeting while enhancing the quality of tourism workforce, said Chairman of the An Giang Provincial People's Committee Ho Van Mung.
The project will be implemented in two phases. The initial phase, scheduled from September 2026 to June 2027, English training courses will be organized on a pilot basis in 10-15 uppper secondary schools along with community-based classes in Duong Dong, Ganh Dau, An Thoi, and Duong To.
In the second phase from 2027-2030, this English training model will be expanded to at least 50 percent of the island's junior and secondary schools while community-based classes will double.
