Party General Secretary meets with Russia Party Chairman Medvedev
VGP – Nguyen Phu Trong, General Secretary of the Communist Party of Viet Nam (CPV) on Monday met with Chairman of the United Russia Party Dmitry Medvedev who is on an official visit to Viet Nam from May 21-23 under an agreement reached by the two Parties.
In a friendly atmosphere, Party General Secretary Nguyen warmly welcomed Medvedev's first visit to Viet Nam in his capacity as Chairman of the ruling United Russia Party.
Nguyen briefed the visiting guest about Viet Nam's achievements as well as key tasks set by the CPV for socio-economic and cultural development.
Party leader Nguyen expressed his appreciation for the achievements gained Russia under the leadership of President Vladimir Putin and the United Russia Party.
In its foreign policy, Viet Nam attaches importance to the traditional friendship and comprehensive strategic partnership with Russia, said Nguyen, adding that the CPV wishes to further develop relations with political parties in Russia, including the United Russia Party, as a political foundation for long-term and sustainable relations between the two countries.
Medvedev conveyed President Putin's greetings to Party General Secretary Nguyen and other Vietnamese leaders, and congratulated on Viet Nam's dynamic development.
The two leaders discussed the current international situation and major orientations to promote positive developments worldwide, and exchanged views on issues of shared concern.
Regarding major orientations to further strengthen the relations between the two Parties and the two countries, the two leaders agreed to continue enhancing mutual understanding and political trust through high-level visits and exchanges in flexible formats; improving and expanding cooperation in economy, science and technology, culture, education among others under bilateral agreements.
They also agreed to promote the role of bilateral and multilateral trade and investment cooperation mechanisms and frameworks; strengthen information exchanges, cooperation between the two sides' diplomatic agencies, and coordination at international forums.
Before the meeting, Medvedev, who is also Deputy Chairman of the Security Council of Russia and his entourage laid wreath at the Monument to Heroic Martyrs and paid tribute to President Ho Chi Minh at his Mausoleum.
On the occasion, both sides issued a joint statement on the outcomes of the official visit to Viet Nam by Chairman of the United Russia Party Medvedev./.
