Party chief visits Central Highlands

VGP – The Central Highlands holds an important strategic position and it is a strategic mission to guarantee the sustainable development here, stated Party General Secretary Nông Đức Mạnh.

General Secretary Nông Đức Mạnh of the Communist Party of Việt Nam is paying a working visit to the Central Highlands provinces in order to review the implementation of the 10th Party Congress Resolution here.

In his meeting with leaders of Đắk Lắk Province on December 9, the Party chief stressed that the Central Highlands holds a strategic position in national construction and protection, so to guarantee the sustainable develop here is a strategic tasks.

Mr. Mạnh was convinced that, by making full use of their potentials and advantages, Đắk Lắk and other Central Highlands provinces will surely become a key economic zone in Việt Nam soon.

Talking of orientations for socio-economic development in Đắk Lắk, the General Secretary suggested the province pay attention to the cultivation of industrial crops, the raising of cattle, processing industries and services in order to improve living standards of local people.

He also asked the local government to assist ethnic minority people.

Over the past four years, Đăk Lăk has maintained the annual GDP growth rate of 12.17%.

The province has drawn 212 domestic investment projects on hydroelectricity, processing industries, forestry, construction and services.

Four foreign investment projects, worth of US $20 million, are being carried out here.

Some local enterprises have invested in processing tapioca and planting rubber trees in Laos and Cambodia.
