Party chief hosts welcome ceremony for U.S. President Joe Biden
VGP – General Secretary of the Communist Party of Viet Nam Nguyen Phu Trong hosted an official welcome ceremony for U.S. President Joe Biden at the Presidential Palace in Ha Noi on Sunday.
Dignitaries to the welcome ceremony include Politburo member, Standing Vice Chairman of the National Assembly Tran Thanh Man; Politburo member, Minister of Public Security To Lam; General Phan Van Giang, Politburo member, Minister of National Defense; Secretary of the Party Central Committee, Chief of the Party Central Committee's Office Le Minh Hung, Secretary of the Party Central Committee, Deputy Prime Minister Le Minh Khai; member of the Party Central Committee, Head of the Party Central Committee's Commission for External Affairs Le Hoai Trung; member of the Party Central Committee, Minister of Foreign Affairs Bui Thanh Son among others.
After the welcome ceremony, General Secretary of the Communist Party of Viet Nam Nguyen Phu Trong will hold talks with President Joe Biden at the Headquarters of the Party Central Committee.
President Joe Biden arrived in Ha Noi on Sunday afternoon, starting his two-day State-level visit to Viet Nam at the invitation of Party chief Nguyen Phu Trong.
This is the first time a President of the U.S. pays a State-level visit to Viet Nam at the invitation of the General Secretary of the Communist Party of Viet Nam, Deputy Foreign Minister Ha Kim Ngoc told reporters.
It is also the first time both President and Vice President of the U.S. have visited Viet Nam in a single term and Biden's visit is a "special event" for both nations, Ha emphasized./.
