Overseas remittances to Ho Chi Minh City hit over US$5.2 bln in first half
VGP - Remittances sent by overseas Vietnamese to Ho Chi Minh City reached US$5.23 billion in the first six months this year, official data shows.
Of the above figure, remittances sent to the southern metropolis via credit institutions and economic organizations increased by 22 percent to US$2.82 billion.
Asia remains the dominant source thanks to the sharp increase in remittances from markets such as Japan, South Korea, and Taiwan, where a large number of Vietnamese workers are employed.
In 2024, remittances to the city was estimated at US$9.6 billion, up US$140 million compared to the previous year.
The amount of remittances to Ho Chi Minh City has always grown annually, and accounted for about 55 percent of total remittances to Viet Nam over the past three consecutive years.
Viet Nam received roughly US$16 billion in remittances from nearly 6 million Vietnamese residing in 130 countries and territories in 2024./.
