Over 500 Vietnamese illegal workers in Cambodia repatriated
VGP - Competent agencies have rescued and repatriated over 500 Vietnamese citizens who'd been tricked to work in the neighbouring country of Cambodia, said Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman Le Thi Thu Hang.
Ms. Hang made the announcement at a press briefing in Ha Noi on August 25 in response to inquiries about human trafficking for illegal work in Cambodia.
According to Ms. Le, the authorities have so far rescued over 500 Vietnamese citizens and supported thousands of others in Cambodia with procedures to go back home.
In the first half of this year, the Ministry of Public Security has discovered several rings smuggling people to Cambodia for illegal work.
Vietnamese representative offices in Cambodia have actively contacted the Cambodian side to investigate the issue.
According to the Spokeswoman, in the coming time, the MoFA and Vietnamese representative offices in Cambodia will work with Cambodian peers to protect Vietnamese citizens there, repatriate those who were tricked into illegal working, and protect their legitimate rights.
Previously, on August 18, border guards in Viet Nam's An Giang province detained 40 people who illegally entered Viet Nam after swimming across the Binh Di River to escape from the Phoenix casino in Cambodia.
They were held at the casino against their will and subjected to torture.
So far, Cambodia has completed procedures for 25 Vietnamese citizens, who'd been tricked to become workers in the country, to return to Viet Nam./.
