Omicron becomes dominant variant in Ha Noi
VGP - The Omicron has become the dominant variant in Ha Noi, the municipal Department of Health has reported.
Random genome sequencing of the samples those who tested positive for COVID-19 from December 4, 2021 to March 1, 2022 showed that 80 percent of cases infected with Omicron.
Particularly, BA.2 sublineage, which was considered a variant of concern by the World Health Organization, is predominant in the capital city, said the Department.
The city reported 27,283 COVID-19 cases each day on average over the past week but the hospitalization rate stood at 1-1.5 percent of the total positive cases.
The Department said more than 16.1 million doses of vaccines have been administered in the city.
Since April 27 when the fourth wave of COVID-19 resurgence broke out, 495,130 patients have been admitted to hospitals. Over 242,000 patients are being warded at hospitals. Around 95% patients in the capital are either mild or asymptomatic, with a death rate at 0.4% .
