Vietnamese Ambassador to Sri Lanka and the Maldives Trinh Thi Tam

Vietnamese Ambassador to Sri Lanka and the Maldives Trinh Thi Tam said the visit will reinforce political trust and identify concrete steps to elevate the bilateral ties.

It will also help boost collaboration in trade, investment, agriculture, technology, tourism, and logistics, while opening up new opportunities in innovation and energy transition.

The Ambassador underscored that the bilateral relations have grown steadily since the two countries established in 1970, underpinned by strong political trust, regular high-level exchanges, and mutual support at international forums.

Despite challenges such as geographic distance and limited connectivity, both countries are promoting cooperation through increased visits, improved mechanisms, and new areas like digital transformation, renewable energy, and the maritime economy.

Economic ties, though still modest, are expanding with complementary trade structures and a shared goal of reaching US$1 billion in bilateral trade.

Cooperation in defense, security, and legal affairs will continue under existing frameworks, with greater emphasis on areas such as maritime security, cybersecurity, and participation in UN peacekeeping operations.

In addition, both sides plan to expand collaboration in high-potential fields including digital transformation, green and circular economy, renewable energy, sustainable agriculture, maritime economy, and logistics.

People-to-people exchanges, along with cultural and educational cooperation, will also be intensified to strengthen the social foundation of bilateral ties.

With a solid foundation, strong political will, and complementary economic structures, Viet Nam and Sri Lanka are well-positioned to further deepen their partnership.

The upcoming high-level visit is expected to inject new impetus, helping to make bilateral cooperation more effective, comprehensive, and increasingly strategic, while contributing to peace, stability, and development in the region./.
