Net-zero emission by 2050 is commitment to action: Prime Minister
VGP - Viet Nam’s goal to achieve net-zero emission by 2050 is not merely a promise but a 'commitment to action', reiterated Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh.

The Government leader presided over the 6th meeting of the National Steering Committee for implementing Viet Nam's commitments at the COP26 in Ha Noi on January 14.
Pham said, the net-zero emission target is a political mission of the nation and a responsibility shared by the entire political system, the business community, and every citizen.
Since 2022, the number of electric cars in Viet Nam has increased more than 28-fold, to a total of 270,000 vehicles, while electric buses have increased fourfold to a total of 1,187 vehicles.
Nearly 600 buildings have been certified as green buildings nationwide.
Viet Nam has completed the procedures to become an official member of the International Solar Alliance (ISA) and participate in the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA).
By the end of 2025, outstanding green credit reached over VND 750 trillion (US$28.54 billion), up 10.3 percent compared to the end of 2024.
The Prime Minister outlined five key groups of tasks for the period ahead, including:
(i) Improving the institutional framework in line with the country's conditions and circumstances and international regulations;
(ii) Developing mechanisms and policies to mobilize financial resources for green development;
(iii) Establishing regulations for the transfer of advanced technologies to serve green development, while promoting science and technology, and innovation;
(iv) Building a national governance model for green and smart development;
(v) Training human resources for green development.
Regarding the promotion of greenhouse gas emission reduction, Pham called for the early pilot implementation of emission quota allocation and the implementation of the Nationally Determined Contributions (NDC).
He underscored the need to make thorough preparations for the operation of the domestic carbon market, including the exchange of greenhouse gas emission reduction outcomes and carbon credits.
The Ministry of Construction was tasked to develop a roadmap for greening the transport sector, while ministries, sectors, and localities accelerate the implementation of tasks related to the transfer of advanced technologies to electrify transport and develop green transport and green infrastructure.
The Government chief also highlighted the significance of enhancing the development of renewable energy, a just energy transition, green finance and credits./.
