National Tourism Year 2024 to mark Dien Bien Phu victory
VGP - The northern mountainous province of Dien Bien will host the National Tourism Year 2024 on the occasion of the 70th anniversary of the Dien Bien Phu victory (May 7, 1954 – 2024), according to the Ministry of Culture, Sports, and Tourism.
The event is expected to promote cultural values, natural resources and special tourism products of Viet Nam in general and Dien Bien in particular.
It also creates a chance to strengthen links in domestic and international tourism development.
In 2024, Dien Bien targets to welcome 1.3 million tourists and earn a total revenue of VND 2.2 trillion (over US$90.6 million) from tourism activities in 2024.
As scheduled, an opening ceremony of the National Tourism Year 2024 and the Ban Flowers Festival will take place in Dien Bien Phu City of Dien Bien province in March. A closing ceremony will be held in December, 2024.
From 2016 to 2020, Dien Bien welcomed 3 million tourists, earning a total revenue of VND 4.8 trillion.
Airports Corporation of Viet Nam (ACV) reported that all construction items of the project expanding Dien Bien Airport are completed for opening on December 2.
Expanding Dien Bien Airport is one of the key projects to celebrate the 70th anniversary of the Dien Bien Victory in 2024 and create economic growth momentum for the northern mountainous province and the northwest region.
The Dien Bien Phu Victory in 1954 ended a century of ceaseless struggle by the Vietnamese people against the domination of the French colonialists. The victory set the stage for Viet Nam’s eventual national unification.
Dien Bien Phu was one of the greatest battles of the 20th century.
Binh Thuan province is the host of the National Tourism Year 2023. The closing ceremony of the tourism year is expected to take place in Phan Thiet City on December 30./.
