Nguyen Chi Dung, aged 65, was promoted the new role from his previous position as Minister of Planning and Investment.

Meanwhile, Mai Van Chinh, aged 64, was former Chairman of the Central Commission for Mass Mobilization.

The Government is now led by Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh and seven Deputy Prime Ministers: Nguyen Hoa Binh, Tran Hong Ha, Le Thanh Long, Ho Duc Phoc, Bui Thanh Son, Mai Van Chinh, and Nguyen Chi Dung.

The same day, legislators casted votes to elect Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development Le Minh Hoan and Chairman of the National Assembly Economic Committee Vu Hong Thanh as new Vice Chairmen of the National Assembly.

The above moves by the legislative body are part of the Communist Party of Viet Nam (CPV) Central Committee's plan to rearrange and streamline the apparatus of the political system.

Under the plan, the CPV Central Committee decided to set up the Central Commission for Communication, Education and Mass Mobilization by merging the Central Commission for Communication and Education and the Central Commission for Mass Mobilization.

For the organizational structure of the Government, the CPV Central Committee decided to merge the Ministry of Planning and Investment and the Ministry of Finance, the Ministry of Construction and the Ministry of Transport, the Ministry of Science and Technology and the Ministry of Information and Communications, the Ministry of Labor-Invalids and Social Affairs and the Ministry of Home Affairs.

The CPV Central Committee also decided to set up the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment by merging the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development and the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment; the Ministry of Ethnic Minorities and Religions by transferring the tasks and functions on religious affairs from the Ministry of Home Affairs to the current Committee for Ethnic Minorities.

Other ministries (the Ministry of National Defense, Ministry of Public Security, Ministry of Justice, Ministry of Industry and Trade, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ministry of Culture, Sports, and Tourism, Ministry of Health, and Ministry of Education and Training) remain unchanged.

Three ministerial-level agencies are the Government Office, Government Inspectorate, and State Bank of Viet Nam./.
