NA ratifies resolution on Hà Nội’s expansion
VNGOP – With the approval of 92.9%, the National Assembly ratified on May 29 the Resolution on the readjustment of the administrative boundaries of Hà Nội and some neighboring provinces. The Resolution will come into effect since August 1, 2008.

Before the NA approved the expansion of Hà Nội, PM Nguyễn Tấn Dũng had presented an additional report on the issue.
NA Chairman Nguyễn Phú Trọng stressed that the report clarified many concerns of NA deputies, creating the high consensus on an important issues of the country.
The Chairman confirmed that the NA will closely supervise and requested the Government to make annual reports on the implementation of the Resolution.
According to the Resolution, the entire area and population of Hà Tây Province, Mê Linh District of Vĩnh Phúc Province, and four communes of Lương Sơn District (Hòa Bình Province) will be merged into Hà Nội.
After the readjustment, Hà Nội will have a natural land area of 334,470 ha and a population of 6.2 million.
Under the Resolution, the Government must direct the designing of a planning scheme for Hà Nội Capital and collect public opinions on the scheme before reporting to the NA.
