Ministry releases new statistical criteria for sustainable development

VGP - The Ministry of Planning and Investment (MoPI) has promulgated Circular No. 02/2025/TT-BKHDT, regulating statistical indicators for sustainable development.

Under the Circular, there are 145 statistical indicators which shall be used to evaluate the realization of 17 sustainable development goals in Viet Nam.

The General Statistics Office takes the prime responsibility for collecting and summarizing statistical information on sustainable development and build a statistical database on sustainable development in Viet Nam.

Appendix II of the Circular, scheduled to take effect on March 10, 2025, outlines their definitions, calculation methods, main components, publication frequency, data sources and the agencies responsible for collecting them.

On the basis of this set of statistical indicators, ministerial-level agencies, local agencies are in charge of for collecting, synthesizing, compiling assigned indicators and reporting them to the General Statistics Office for general synthesis.

Below are 17 sustainable development goals:

(1) Eradicating all forms of poverty.

(2) Eradicating poverty, ensuring food security, improving nutritions and promoting sustainable agricultural development.

(3) Ensuring healthy lives and promoting well-being for all at all ages.

(4) Ensuring inclusive and equitable quality education and promoting lifelong learning opportunities for all.

(5) Achieving gender equality, empowering women and girls.

(6) Ensuring availability and sustainable management of water resources and sanitation for all.

(7) Ensuring access to affordable, reliable and sustainable energy for all.

(8) Ensuring sustainable, inclusive and continued economic growth; creating jobs for all.

(9) Building resilient infrastructure, promoting inclusive and sustainable industrialization, enhancing innovation.

(10) Reducing social inequality.

(11) Developing sustainable and resilient urban and rural areas, ensuring safe living and working environments, and rationally distributing population and labor by region.

(13) Responding promptly and effectively to climate change and natural disasters.

(14) Conserving and sustainably using oceans, seas and marine resources for sustainable development.

(15) Protecting and developing forests sustainablly, conserving biodiversity, developing ecosystem services, combatting desertification, preventing degradation and restoring land resources.

(16) Promoting peaceful, equitable and equitable societies for sustainable development, facilitating access to justice for all, building effective, accountable and participatory institutions at all levels.

(17) Strengthening implementation methods and promoting a global partnership for sustainable development.

In the Sustainable Development Report 2024, Viet Nam scored 73.32 in the SDG Index to rank 54th among the 166 listed countries, representing an improvement in both the score and ranking compared to 2023./.
