Minister of Public Security meets Secretary-General of ASEAN in Vientiane
VGP - Minister of Public Security Luong Tam Quang on August 28 had a meeting with Secretary-General of ASEAN Kao Kim Hourn in Vientiane, Laos.
The Vietnamese Minister is on a working visit to Laos to attend the 18th ASEAN Ministerial Meeting on Transnational Crime (AMMTC-18).
Luong expressed thanks for the ASEAN Secretariat's support for the Vietnamese Ministry of Public Security in effectively implementing cooperation activities within the framework of the ASEAN multilateral mechanism on preventing and fighting transnational crimes.
Viet Nam always considers ASEAN one of the important pillars in the country's foreign policy, he noted, adding that the ministry is committed to actively and responsibly joining ASEAN countries' efforts in addressing global issues, contributing to peace and stability in the world.
Luong expressed his wish to receive support from Kao Kim Hourn and the ASEAN Secretariat for Viet Nam in realizing its initiatives and cooperation projects within the framework of the ASEAN Senior Officials' Meeting on Transnational Crime (SOMTC) cooperation mechanism.
As the coordinator of ASEAN-UK and ASEAN-New Zealand relations for the 2024-2027 period, Viet Nam expects to make more contributions to fostering stronger ties in combating transnational crimes between ASEAN and its partners, he said.
For his part, Secretary-General Kao Kim Hourn hailed Viet Nam's contributions to the ASEAN community, as well as its coordination in ASEAN.
He spoke highly of the Vietnamese Ministry of Public Security in training and improving the capacity and skills of law enforcement officers in ASEAN, welcoming Vietnamese officials to join the ASEAN Secretariat.
The official thanked Viet Nam for successfully coordinating the ASEAN-South Korea relations for the 2021-2024 period, expressing his hope that Viet Nam will continue to boost coordination between ASEAN and New Zealand, and ASEAN and the United Kingdom in the 2023-2027 period.
The ASEAN Secretariat always stands ready to coordinate with the ministry to carry out activities and projects to raise the capacity of law enforcement officers of ASEAN countries, he underlined./.
