VGP - Seventeen out of 34 provinces and centrally-run cities have reported double-digit GDP growth rates in the third quarter of 2026, according to the National Statistics Office.

Among them, the northern city of Quang Ninh led the way with a GDP growth rate of 15.54 percent in Q3, followed by Ha Tinh at 12.36 percent, Hai Phong at 12.08, and Bac Ninh at 11.81.

Other localities posting double-digit growth included Thai Nguyen (11.24), Hung Yen (11.22 percent), Khanh Hoa (11.21 percent), Da Nang (10.31 percent), Tay Ninh (10.30 percent), Phu Tho (10.01 percent), and Dong Nai (10.01).

The strong performance across localities was primarily driven by robust growth in the industry-construction and services sectors.

As many as 30 of the 34 localities recorded industry-construction growth of more than 10 percent in Q3. An Giang posted the highest growth rate at 26.27 percent, followed by Thai Nguyen at 20.34 percent and Quang Ninh at 18.51 percent.

The expansion was supported by newly commissioned production capacity at electronics and equipment manufacturing plants, rising demand in the electric vehicle (EV) segment, and concerted efforts to accelerate public investment disbursement.

The services sector also made a significant contribution, with 11 localities recording growth of more than 10 percent in Q3. Quang Ninh, Da Nang and Hai Phong were among the leading performers, benefiting from international cultural and tourism festivals as well as a steady recovery in domestic consumer spending.

Meanwhile, the agriculture, forestry and fisheries sector continued to serve as an important economic anchor, maintaining relatively stable growth of 2–5 percent across localities. However, a heavy dependence on agriculture continued to expose structural weaknesses in some areas.

Over the first nine months of 2026, growth performance remained uneven among provinces and cities. Six localities recorded growth below 8%, namely Can Tho, Lang Son, Dong Thap, Ca Mau, Vinh Long and Son La.

According to the National Statistics Office, high growth in the first nine months was concentrated mainly in localities with strong industrial foundations and large-scale processing and manufacturing sectors, supported by investment, exports and the expansion of services.

The latest results provide a positive basis for localities to maintain momentum and step up efforts in the final quarter, contributing to the country's overall growth target for 2026.

Earlier, the Vietnamese Government set a target of 11.9 percent GDP growth in the second half of 2026, betting on investment, production, reform and digital transformation to achieve double-digit economic growth for the full year.

To support this expansion, the Government asked ministries and local authorities to adopt more innovative approaches and intensify efforts to meet the updated growth scenario, fully disburse public investment allocations for this year are required, with detailed weekly, monthly and quarterly implementation schedules to identify delays early and strengthen accountability./.
