In their messages, senior Vietnamese leaders affirmed that Viet Nam regards the U.S. as a partner of strategic importance.

They expressed their belief that with the solid foundation built by generations of the two countries' leaders over nearly three decades, and with strong support from President Donald Trump during his first tenure as well as his upcoming tenure, the Viet Nam–U.S. comprehensive strategic partnership will continue to develop in an extensive, effective, and sustainable manner, for the benefits and aspirations of their peoples and for peace, stability, cooperation, and development in the region and the world.

The same day, Vice President Vo Thi Anh Xuan telegraphed her message of congratulations to Vice President-elect James David Vance.

Nearly 30 years after establishing diplomatic ties, Viet Nam and the U.S. have made significant progress in their bilateral cooperation. In September 2023, the two nations officially elevated their relationship to a comprehensive strategic partnership for peace, cooperation, and sustainable development.

Economic and trade cooperation is the key pillar, serving as a driving force for the overall relationship between the two countries. Over the past 10 years, two-way trade turnover increased nearly fourfold, from US$29.07 billion in 2013 to over US$110.84 billion in 2023.

The two-way trade between Viet Nam and the U.S. beat the US$100 billion mark over the first nine months of 2024, reported the Ministry of Industry and Trade./.
