Leaders send condolences to South Korea over deadly plane crash
VGP - President Luong Cuong and Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh on Sunday extended condolences to Acting President of South Korea Choi Sang-mok over the Jeju Air plane crash which caused multiple fatalities and injuries earlier the same day.
National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man conveyed a message of sympathy to Speaker of the Korean National Assembly Woo Won-shik.
On the occasion, Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Foreign Affairs Bui Thanh Son also extended his condolences to Korean Foreign Minister Cho Tae-yul.
A Jeju Air Boeing 737-800 plane arriving from Thailand's Bangkok crashed in Muan International Airport, killing 179 out of 181 passengers and crew members on board. Only two survivors, both cabin staff, were pulled from the burning wreckage.
Korean authorities said they were investigating the cause of the crash, including a possible bird strike.
It was the worst domestic civil aviation disaster and the Korean Government declared a seven-day national mourning period, starting on December 29./.
