Emmanuel Macron won the second round of France’s presidential election on April 24.

Viet Nam and France set up diplomatic ties on April 12, 1973. The two countries will celebrate the 50th anniversary of diplomatic ties and 10 years of the strategic partnership in 2023.

The relations between the countries have obtained many important achievements in all fields from politics, diplomacy, trade, investment, development cooperation, education and training, to science and technology.

The two sides have signed many important agreements, laying the foundation for advancing their partnership, including the EU-Viet Nam Comprehensive Partnership and Cooperation Agreement, and most recently the EU-Viet Nam Free Trade Agreement (EVFTA).

Both countries have also cooperated in addressing global and regional challenges, such as climate change response and COVID-19 pandemic fight.

Due to the impacts of COVID-19 pandemic, two-way trade declined by 10 percent on year to US$4.8 billion in the first 11 months of 2021.

As of last August, France ranked 16th out of 140 countries and territories investing in Viet Nam with 632 valid projects worth more than US$3.6 billion./.
