Lawmakers adopt socio-economic development plan for 2027

VGP – Lawmakers on Saturday adopted a Resolution on socio-economic development plan for 2027 at the ongoing second session of the 16th National Assembly.

November 07, 2026 11:05 AM GMT+7

Under the plan, Viet Nam sets a growth goal of at least 10 percent in association with maintaining macro-economic stability, controlling inflation, and ensuring major balance of the economy.

The Southeast Asian nation will focus on perfecting institutions and laws, improving the quality and effectiveness of law and policy enforcement work, and enhancing productivity, quality, efficiency, autonomy, and competitiveness of the economy.

Viet Nam targets substantive breakthroughs in science, technology, innovation, and digital transformation; master strategic technologies, core technologies, ad strategic technological products.

The Vietnamese economy recorded several important milestones in the first 10 months of 2026, with total trade surpassing US$1 trillion for the first time, while industrial production and foreign direct investment (FDI) continued to grow, according to the Ministry of Industry and Trade.

Total trade value was estimated at US$1.01 trillion in January-October period, up 32.3 percent year on year, of which export turnover reached US$499 billion, a year-on-year increase of 27.4 percent.

When Viet Nam joined the World Trade Organization (WTO) in 2007, its total trade volume only exceeded US$100 billion. Nearly two decades later, the figure has increased tenfold, demonstrating the country's growing role in global production networks and supply chains,

Notably, Viet Nam also officially joined the upper-middle-income group in July 2026.

Foreign investment attraction also remained positive. Registered FDI reached US$50.36 billion, up 76.4 percent year on year, while disbursed capital totalled US$21.07 billion, up 12.1 percent year on year.

FDI inflows continued to support the expansion of production capacity and exports, particularly in processing and manufacturing, electronics and technology.

Alongside these positive macroeconomic developments, domestic businesses have been making efforts to innovate production, expand markets and achieve double-digit growth, contributing to the country's overall economic targets./.
