The simulation featured the preparation for a possible 6-7 meter high tsunami which was supposed to hit targeted areas in around 2.5-3 hours.
As prepared, the local authorities used the public media to send tsunami warnings to fishermen and residents and conduct proper evacuations with support of military aircraft.
This is the first time the Government has hosted a large-scale tsunami exercise in a bid to assess the efficiency of the tsunami warning system as well as to test the co-ordination capacity of agencies, forces and the preparedness of local residents.
Addressing the event, Deputy Prime Minister Hoàng Trung Hải asked coastal provinces to early design a specific evacuation plan for local residents in case of tsunami and the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment and relevant agencies to disseminate appropriate measures in response to tsunami to local residents, especially fishermen./.
