VGP – Lao Cai province needs to strongly develop services, particularly tourism, with a focus on diversifying tourism products, developing tourism infrastructure and improving the quality of tourism human resources.

May 31, 2017 4:14 PM GMT+7

The province should strive towards the goal of attracting three million tourists in 2017 and from five to six millions by 2020, with the tourism structure taking up 30% in its gross regional domestic product (GRDP).

The abovementioned contents are included in the conclusions of Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc at his recent working session with leaders of the northern mountainous province.

In order to build Lao Cai into a prosperous province and a development center of the northwestern region by 2020, the Government leader urged the Lao Cai Party organization, authorities and people to bring into fully their fine traditions, to promptly address shortcomings and to take drastic and innovative measures to develop the province in a rapid, sustainable and comprehensive fashion.

The province needs to drastically implement action plans to realize the Government’s Resolutions No. 19, 35 and 60 on improving the investment environment, enhancing competitiveness, supporting the development of businesses and accelerating the disbursement of public investment capital, he said.

It is also necessary for Lao Cai to remove difficulties and create favorable conditions for enterprises to expand their business production activities, focusing on encouraging startup and innovation, towards doubling the existing number of companies operating in the locality by 2020, PM Phuc noted.

He asked the province to tighten planning management, invest in basic construction, closely monitor and economically use the budget, mobilize resources for infrastructure development and accelerate agricultural restructuring in association with the building of new-style rural areas.

Lao Cai was also requested to build its border economic zone into a cargo transit hub for countries in the Greater Mekong Subregion, ASEAN nations and China, as well as a modern logistics center of the region; to closely manage its natural mineral resources; and to attract investment in intensive processing industries associated with protecting the ecological environment.

In addition, the Government leader suggested that Lao Cai boost reforms and simplification of administrative procedures and facilitate the online observance of public services ensuring publicity, transparency and accountability, contributing to improving the business climate and the competitiveness.
