This milestone is part of the project “Development of Easy-Operation High-Tech Analytical Devices and Human Resources for Food Safety and Environmental Quality Control” under the SATREPS program, funded by the Government of Japan through non-refundable ODA.
The opening ceremony brought together representatives from universities, research institutions, government agencies, and public and private companies from both Japan and Viet Nam, highlighting strong international collaboration.
Viet Nam's rapid economic growth has led to increasing water and air pollution caused by industrialization.
Traditionally, analysis of such pollutants has been conducted centrally in laboratories, an approach that is costly, time consuming and slow to respond to environmental issues.
To address these challenges, the project has been promoting collaboration between Japanese and Vietnamese institutions to develop microfluidic device technology and electrochemical detection techniques that enable on-site environmental analysis of water and air quality.
Furthermore, to transfer Japan's advanced analytical technologies to Viet Nam, member companies of Japan Analytical Instruments Manufacturers' Association (JAIMA) have dispatched experts as lecturers for the project's capacity-building programs.
Associate Professor Hoang Minh Son, Chairman of the Council, Director of Ha Noi National University expressed his high expectations for the Center's contribution to improving Viet Nam's environmental quality.
Japanese Ambassador to Viet Nam Ito Naoki affirmed that Viet Nam–Japan cooperation in science and technology is a testament to their sustainable partnership and shared commitment to addressing global challenges.
The event also featured a ribbon-cutting and tree-planting ceremony, followed by demonstrations of analytical devices and instruments developed under the project, as well as an overview of its objectives and expected outcomes.
The ceremony provided a valuable opportunity for active exchange among participants and further deepened partnership among academia, enterprises, and government.
Moving forward, the project will continue to strengthen the partnership to establish an on-site analytical system capable of rapidly collecting and analyzing environmental data. This effort aims to support early detection and mitigation of pollution, contributing to cleaner and healthier Viet Nam.
SATREPS (Science and Technology Research Partnership for Sustainable Development) is an international joint research program jointly implemented by JST (Japan Science and Technology Agency) and JICA (Japan International Cooperation Agency). The program aims to address global challenges — such as environmental issues, energy, disaster prevention, infectious diseases, food, and water — through collaboration betweenresearchers from Japan and developing countries, utilizing science and technology as a driving force forsustainable development./.
