Industrial production index picks up in 7 months

VGP - Viet Nam’s Index of Industrial Production (IIP) increased by 8.5 percent in the first seven months, the General Statistics Office (GSO) reported Monday.

Specifically, the processing and manufacturing sector grew by 9.5 percent, electricity production and distribution up 12.4 percent, water supply and sewerage and waste management and remediation activities up 7.2 percent. However, the mining sector suffered a drop of 6.2 percent.

In July, the IIP soared 0.7 percent compared to the previous month and 11.2 percent year-on-year. The processing and manufacturing saw a month-on-month increase of 13.3 percent; electricity production and distribution up 9.9 percent, water supply and sewerage and waste management and remediation activities up 12.1 percent. The mining sector decreased by 7 percent.

According to the GSO’s report, among the country's centrally-run 63 cities and provinces, 60 reported IIP growth during the seven-month period, while three others experienced IIP drop./.
