Indonesia's President-elect Prabowo Subianto visits Viet Nam
VGP – Indonesia's President-elect Prabowo Subianto is set to pay a working visit to Viet Nam from September 13-14 at the invitation of General Secretary and President To Lam, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced Friday.
Viet Nam and Indonesia established diplomatic relations on December 30, 1955 and both sides elevated the ties to strategic partnership in 2013, making Viet Nam the only strategic partner of Indonesia in ASEAN.
In recent years, the traditional friendship and strategic partnership between Viet Nam and Indonesia has developed fruitfully. The two sides have maintained regular exchange of delegations and high-level meetings at all levels, especially in 2023 when the two countries celebrated the 10th anniversary of their strategic partnership.
Bilateral cooperation agreements have been realized effectively, including the action program to implement the Viet Nam-Indonesia strategic partnership for the 2019-2023 period.
Indonesia is currently Viet Nam's third biggest trade partner in ASEAN, while Viet Nam is India's fourth largest.
The two-way trade was estimated at around US$12.6 billion as of November 2023. Both sides set goal to raise their trade exchanges to US$15 billion by 2028.
As both are members of the ASEAN Free Trade Area (AFTA) and the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP), Viet Nam and Indonesia have many opportunities for the promotion of trade cooperation in the near future.
On investment, as of September 2023, Indonesia has 119 projects worth US$646 million, mostly in the processing and manufacturing industry as well as accommodation and dining services./.
