Indonesian President hosts welcome ceremony for President Nguyen Xuan Phuc

This is the first trip to Indonesia by a top Vietnamese leader after the 13th National Congress of the Communist Party of Viet Nam and also the first by a Vietnamese President over the past nine years as the two nations are preparing for the 10th founding anniversary of strategic partnership.

Viet Nam and Indonesia establish diplomatic relations in 1955 and set up the strategic partnership in 2013. Indonesia is currently Viet Nam's third largest trade partner in ASEAN while Viet Nam is Indonesia's fourth largest trade partner in the bloc. Their trade value hit US$8.2 billion in 2020; US$11.5 billion in 2021; and US$11.6 billion in the first ten months of 2022.

As of September this year, Indonesia ranks 5th in ASEAN and 29th out of 141 countries investing in Viet Nam with 101 projects worth US$611.7 million, mostly in processing and manufacturing industry, and accommodation and dining services.

Viet Nam, meanwhile, invests US$59 million in 17 projects in Indonesia in the fields of commerce, IT, agriculture and industry.
