Hun Sen: Viet Nam-Cambodia relationship remains unchanged despite global political volatility
VGP – The relationship between Viet Nam and Cambodia remains unchanged, fine and complementary despite global political volatility and economic fluctuations, said Cambodian Prime Minister Samdech Techo Hun Sen.
Prime Minister Hun Sen made the above remarks on Tuesday at the Viet Nam-Cambodia trade and investment promotion forum in Phnom Penh, Cambodia.
The forum was also attended by Vietnamese Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh who is on an official visit to Cambodia from November 8-9.
Hun Sen stressed leaders and peoples of the two countries have maintained long-lasting good relationship on the basis of equality, mutual benefits, non-interference into each other's internal affairs, and mutual assistance and support for economic development in respective countries.
He said both Viet Nam and Cambodia have been highly valued by the international community for having achieved high COVID-19 vaccination coverage rate and recovery pace.
In the first months this year, Viet Nam was the one of the biggest tourist source markets for Cambodia, tripling the figure of the same period last year and is expected to increase further if both countries strengthen tourism promotion and connectivity, according to Hun Sen.
Hun Sen noted that the two-way trade accelerated to US$10 billion in 2021 compared to just US$5 billion goal set by the two sides' leaders, a clear evidence of how the two economies are supplementary to each other.
He congratulated Viet Nam on successfully luring foreign investment, particularly from such business giants like Samsung and Foxconn, expressing his wish that Cambodia and Viet Nam could join production chain and expand investment cooperation, especially in electronics and car manufacturing.
Hun Sen called on Vietnamese businesses to seek investment opportunities in Cambodia, pledging to create an environment conducive to investment activities.
