The capital's hospitality and tourism market welcomed 21% more tourists in the first six months of 2016, according to a hospitality market review in the second quarter of 2016 issued by CBRE Viet Nam.

As of June 30, the reports shows that hotel occupancy rates rose 65% in Ho Chi Minh City and 75% in Ha Noi compared to last year. The rate in Ha Noi was the highest in the last five years, competing with Bangkok for the top position in the Southeast Asia region.

Visa exemptions have also contributed to the increasing number of international visitors to Viet Nam. Ho Chi Minh City received 2.1 million visitors in the first half, an increase of 13.5% compared to the same period last year.

The number of foreign tourists to Ha Noi and Nha Trang witnessed respective increases of 39.3% and 39%.
