HN leads in attracting FDI in 2018

VGP – The capital city of Ha Noi has taken the lead in attracting the Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) in 2018 with US$7.5 billion, an increase of 2.2 times against the previous year and the highest figure recorded over the recent 30 years.

The Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) in 2018 hit US$7.5 billion, the highest figure recorded over the recent 30 years.

According to the city’s department of planning and investment, Ha Noi has attracted US$36.55 billion in FDI so far. Real estate has ranked first in attracting FDI, making up 34.8%.  

100% foreign-invested projects account for 80% while joint stock ones make up 20%. 

The FDI poured in Ha Noi in the 2016-2018 period was estimated at US$14 billion, 2.25 times higher than the 2011-2015 phase. 

In 2018, the city granted licenses to 616 FDI projects, with the newly-registered capital of more than US$5 billion and approved to increase capital for 157 projects, valued nearly US$828 million. 

Japan has been the largest investor in Ha Noi with US$10.6 billion, followed by Singapore US$6.9 billion and the Republic of Korea US$5.5 billion. 

Deputy head of the city’s department of planning and investment Tran Ngoc Nam said that the city has identified the FDI business community as the crucial force for the development of the capital city, adding that the city has oriented to attract foreign investment in line with sustainable development, giving priority to qualified, value-added and high competitive projects.
