Since its inauguration in Singapore in 1996, HYLI has been successful in bringing the best and brightest students in Asia together. Each year, four outstanding students below the age of 28 are chosen to represent their country for the program. These students come from seven Asian countries namely Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, Việt Nam and Japan.
As a regional program, HYLI aims to provide a platform for young Asians to gather and meet prominent Asian policymakers, professionals and commentators to discuss and share ideas on trends which affect Asia.
Speakers at the 11th HYLI include Director of the Institute for Economic Strategy under the Vietnamese Ministry of Planning and Investment, Governor of Thailand’s Bangkok Sukhumbhand Paribatra, COE of Malaysian Energy Commission Datuk Ir. Ahmad, Japanese Ambassador to Việt Nam Yasuaki Tanizaki, and Philippine Secretary of Trade and Industry Gregory Domingo.
Speaking at the event, Deputy PM Hoàng Trung Hải said Việt Nam regards the human resources as the foundation for sustainable development, international integration and a stable society.
He said the topics discussed during the five-day event are of important significance for Asia in general and Vietnamese Government in particular.
The Deputy PM urged Vietnamese and foreign students to discuss and propose initiatives on solutions and action programs for crucial issues in the region.
