Highlights of State President Luong Cuong's U.S. tour
VGP - State President Luong Cuong has concluded his working trip to the U.S where he attended the High-Level General Debate of the 80th Session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA 80) and met with world leaders.

The tour coincided with major milestones including the 80th founding anniversaries of both Viet Nam and the United Nations, as well as the 30th founding anniversary of the Viet Nam–U.S. diplomatic relations.
The trip marked an important step in advancing Viet Nam's foreign policy of independence, self-reliance, diversification, multilateralization, and comprehensive global integration, noted Deputy Foreign Minister Dang Hoang Giang.
During the visit, the State President took advantage of the UN platform to share the nation's inspiring story—its transformation from a war-torn, impoverished country into a dynamic middle-income economy full of potential. His remarks highlighted a vision of Viet Nam as a nation ready to enter a new era of growth and prosperity.
Viet Nam's commitments extended well beyond words. The country is actively contributing to UN bodies such as the Human Rights Council, the International Law Commission, and UNESCO. It is also actively pushing for key initiatives, including hosting the signing of the UN Convention against Cybercrime in October 2025 and chairing the 2026 Review Conference of the Non-Proliferation Treaty. Viet Nam's continued participation in UN peacekeeping further reinforces its role as a responsible global partner.
A diplomatic highlight of the trip was the signing of a Joint Communiqué with Tuvalu, making Viet Nam one of the few countries having diplomatic relations with all UN member states.
On the bilateral aspect, State President Luong's meetings with U.S. leaders, members of Congress, local authorities, and major leaders of foreign business giants underscored the spirit of forward-looking partnership. As the two nations celebrate 30 years of diplomatic relations and the second anniversary of their Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, these engagements fueled optimism about expanding cooperation to bring practical benefits to businesses and citizens of both sides.
Looking ahead, State President Luong affirmed that Viet Nam will continue to play an active, responsible, and creative role within the UN and other multilateral forums, with careful preparations already underway for the upcoming signing ceremony of the United Nations Convention on Cybercrime.
Viet Nam and the U.S. will also sustain high-level exchanges and deepen cooperation across a wide range of fields, including economy, trade, investment, national defense and security, science and technology, innovation, artificial intelligence (AI), transport, and education and training. Both sides will continue working together to address war legacies and maintain dialogue to resolve outstanding issues in their bilateral relationship./.
