Greece, VN expand economic cooperation
VGP - The Ho Chi Minh City branch of Viet Nam Chamber of Commerce and Industry have hosted the Viet Nam - Greece trade exchange.
Textile and garment are Viet Nam's key export items to Greece |
Viet Nam and Greece established diplomatic relations in 1975 and have seen the progress of bilateral cooperation, especially in trade and investment.
In the past several years, despite the adverse impact of the global economic recession, bilateral trade has grown continuously from US$196 million in 2015 to US$239 million in 2016, triple that of 2010. However, these results remain modest compared with the potential.
In 2017, the two- way trade turnover reached over US$ 300 million. Viet Nam not only is becoming an attractive destination for foreign investors, including Greece but also has export advantage of agricultural products, textiles and footwear, and others.
Meanwhile, Greece had a developed manufacturing industry, especially its shipping industry in the top of the world.
In recent years, Viet Nam has actively renovated the economy, improving the business investment environment as well as the legal system to attract foreign investors.
In the future, the approval of European Union –Viet Nam Free Trade Agreement (EVFTA) will contribute to setting the legal corridor and creating opportunities to promote trade relations between the two countries./.
