VGP - The Government has submitted a plan to overhaul its organizational structure to the National Assembly for consideration and approval at the legislative body's upcoming session.

February 05, 2025 3:30 PM GMT+7

Under the plan, the number of ministries will be reduced to 14 from current 18 while the number of ministerial-level agencies will be reduced to three from current four.

The Government plans to establish six new ministries:

- The Ministry of Finance by merging the Ministry of Planning and Investment and the Ministry of Finance;

- The Ministry of Construction by merging the Ministry of Construction and the Ministry of Transport;

- The Ministry of Agriculture and Environment by merging the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development and the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment;

- The Ministry of Science and Technology by merging the Ministry of Science and Technology and the Ministry of Information and Communications;

 - The Ministry of Home Affairs by merging the Ministry of Labor-Invalids and Social Affairs and the Ministry of Home Affairs;

- The Ministry of Ethnic Minorities and Religions by transfering the tasks and functions on religious affairs from the Ministry of Home Affairs to the current Committee for Ethnic Minorities.

Other ministries (the Ministry of National Defense, Ministry of Public Security, Ministry of Justice, Ministry of Industry and Trade, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ministry of Culture, Sports, and Tourism, Ministry of Health, and Ministry of Education and Training) remain unchanged.

Three ministerial-level agencies are the Government Office, Government Inspectorate, and State Bank of Viet Nam.

The Government overhaul is part of the 13th Party Central Committee's bigger plan to rearrange and streamline the apparatus of the political system.

The National Assembly is expected to approve the Government's overhaul plan during its session from February 12-18, 2025./.
