Viet Nam is considered as one of the most important areas in the network of flight routes for migratory birds and endemic birds, with 63 globally important bird regions and seven endemic bird regions.

Currently, Viet Nam is home to over 900 bird species, of which 99 require conservation attention, ten are categorized as critically endangered, 17 as endangered, 24 as near- endangered, and 48 as near-threatened species.

The areas of wild birds and migratory birds have created important natural values, contributing to nature conservation, biodiversity conservation, tourism development, and building the image of Viet Nam.

Setting up a system to monitor the important flight path of migratory birds

Under the Directive, the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment (MNRE) was tasked to review, propose and submit regulations on preservation of wild birds and migrating wild birds in Viet Nam.

Guidelines on management and protection of wild animals, migrating birds including the protection of habitats, transboundary migration routes and their stopping points will be put in place.

The MNRE was assigned to work with other relevant countries and territories to protect wild animals and migrating ones and set up a system to monitor the important flight path of migratory birds.

The Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development was tasked to work with forest forces and local authorities to patrol, control, prevent, and punish illegal hunting, catching, killing, raising, confining, transporting, trading, processing, storing and consuming wild birds, migrating, especially in the migratory season from September 2021 to April 2023.

It was urged to liaise with relevant agencies to propose, supplement, and complete legal provisions on sanctions for violations of hunting, shooting, and trapping wild and migratory birds.

The Ministry of Public Security was asked to direct the environmental police force to strengthen measures to fight, prevent and strictly handle violations of the law on hunting, slaughter, raising, transportation, trading, storage, and consumption of wild and migrating birds./.
