Gov’t supplements funding for purchase of COVID-19 vaccines

VGP – The Prime Minister has decided to supplement more than VND7.650 billion (around US$332 million) sourced from State budget and national COVID-19 vaccine fund to the Ministry of Health to purchase 61 million doses of COVID-19 vaccines.

July 01, 2021 10:18 AM GMT+7

The vaccines include 30 million doses manufactured by AstraZeneca and 30 million doses produced by Pfizer.

The Government chief also approved the ministry’s proposal to use VND37 billion out of total VND 1,237 billion (allocated to the ministry under Decision No. 507 dated on March 21, 2021) as corresponding capital for reception, transportation, distribution and storage of vaccines shipped to Viet Nam via the COVAX Facility or donated by foreign partners.

Viet Nam will need VND22.5 trillion to buy 150 million doses of COVID-19 vaccine to inoculate 75 million people in order to achieve herd immunity.

As June 29, 2021, Viet Nam administered 3,593,970 COVID-19 vaccine doses, of these 182,481 got fully vaccinated.

The national COVID-19 vaccine fund, making debut on June 5, received over VND 7.95 trillion (US$344.5 million) as of June 30 afternoon, said its management board said.

By 6.00 am of July 1, Viet Nam’s COVID patient tally reached 17,052 COVID-19 cases, including 4,066 recoveries and 81 deaths./.
