Gov’t submits feasibility study on site clearance for Long Thanh airport construction

VGP — The Ministry of Transport will submit to the Legislature on Friday a feasibility study on land acquisition, compensation and resettlement project for construction of the Long Thanh International Airport.

The Government will acquire more than 5,500 ha, including 3,000 ha of land owned by over 4,700 households, according to the feasibility study.

The total capital for site clearance and resettlement is estimated at over VND 23 trillion (more than US$1 billion), including VND 18 trillion for compensation and 4 trillion for building resettled houses, and VND 388 billion for training and job creation.

Of the total capital volume, the State’s capital accounts for 95% , or VND 22 trillion and the rest will be covered by the local authorities.

The Long Thanh International Airport is located in Long Thanh, Dong Nai province, about 43km from the Tan Son Nhat International Airport in Ho Chi Minh City.

Once completed, the airport has annual capacity of 100 million passengers and five million tons of cargo.

Construction will be divided into three stages, in which the first phase will be completed by 2025, consisting of a runway and a passenger terminal, as well as other auxiliary constructions that capable of handling 25 million passengers and 1.2 million tons of cargo each year./.
