Gov’t sets aside US $72 mil. for hydro-meteorological observatory system
VGP – PM Nguyễn Tấn Dũng lately agreed a plan to spend VND 1,391 billion (US $72.8 million) on bettering Việt Nam’s hydro-meteorological forecast system in a three-year period.

Between 2010 and 2012, the plan will target to increase the density and automation of the hydro-meteorological observatory networks to provide timely and accurate data for better forecasts of rainfall and flood in the country.
The total amount of investment capital will come from the State budget and be disbursed in five projects.
Accordingly, Projects 1 and 2 will receive about VND 634 billion (US $33.2 million) to modernize the hydro-meteorological monitoring system nationwide.
Another VND 294 billion (US $15.4 million) will be used in Project 3 to set up a database and modernize the hydro-meteorological information system.
The rest of VND 413 billion (US $25.2 million) of Project 4 and 5 will go to the modernization of the hydro-meteorological forecasting technology and the construction of an operation center./.
