Ministers Trần Văn Tuấn and Nguyễn Hồng Quân deliver their speeches at the National Assembly

In his statement on the expansion, Minister of Home Affairs Trần Văn Tuấn highlighted that the Capital is facing overpopulation and increasing demands for production, investment, better socio-economic and technical infrastructure, and environment protection.

The Minister emphasized that the planning scheme for Hà Nội targets to build the capital the country’s political and administrative center and also the modern hub of cultural, scientific, educational, economic, tourist activities and international exchanges in the Asian Pacific Region.

In order to fulfill the above targets, in a report on the researches for Hà Nội’s expansion, Minster of Construction Nguyễn Hồng Quân stated that the Government has decided to merge Hà Tây Province, Mê Linh District of Vĩnh Phúc Province, four communes - Đông Xuân, Tiến Xuân, Yên Bình and Yên Trung - of Lương Sơn District (Hòa Bình Province) with Hà Nội.

The NA’s Committee on Law and the participants to the Committee’s May 7-8 meeting on assessing the Government’s proposal approved the plan to expand Hà Nội’s boundaries, said Chairman of the Committee on Laws Nguyễn Văn Thuận.

Nevertheless, they also showed different opinions on the scope, schedule and method to implement the adjustment, he added.

On May 19, the National Assembly will convene a plenary session to talk about the issue.
