Gov't discusses north-south high-speed railway project
VGP – Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh chaired a meeting on Saturday morning to discuss the north-south high-speed railway project before submitting it to the National Assembly.
Participants to the meeting include Standing Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Hoa Binh, Deputy Prime Minister Tran Hong Ha, Deputy Prime Minister Le Thanh Long, Deputy Prime Minister Ho Duc Phoc, Minister of National Defense Phan Van Giang, Minister of Public Security Luong Tam Quang and leaders of several ministries and central agencies.
The 350-kph railway will stretch 1,451km, connecting 20 cities and provinces, from Ha Noi's Ngoc Hoi station to Thu Thiem station in Ho Chi Minh City.
The project will have total investment capital of around US$67.34 billion, according to the Government's preliminary estimate.
The Government will submit the project to the National Assembly for consideration and approval of the project investment policy at its upcoming session.
The construction of the first sections from Ha Noi to Vinh city in central province of Nghe An and Nha Trang city in the central province of Khanh Hoa to Ho Chi Minh City is expected to begin in late 2027.
The remaining section from Vinh to Nha Trang is scheduled to begin in 2028-2029.
The Government will strive to complete the whole project by 2035.
Also at the meeting, the participants will discuss three railway projects connecting Viet Nam and China./.
