Gov’t discusses draft power development master plan VIII

VGP – Deputy Prime Minister Le Van Thanh convened a meeting on Friday to discuss draft power development master plan VIII as the country had committed to achieving net-zero emissions by 2050.

November 19, 2021 10:50 PM GMT+7

Present at the meeting include leaders of several ministries, corporations, experts and representatives of some foreign business associations.

The master plan serves as a basis for power development in the 2021-2030 period and vision towards 2045.A

According to Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade Dang Hoang An, the master plan targets to boost the development of renewable and new energy while reducing coal-fired power.

Offshore wind power would play an important role over the next ten years while solar power development could be reconsidered due to several fluctuations such as weather conditions and storage capacity.

Under the latest draft of the master plan, total power output by 2030 would be around 155,000 MW, a decrease of more than 28,000 MW compared the previous draft edition./.
