Gov’t chief sends condolences to India over deadly stampede
VGP - Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh sent a message of condolences to his Indian counterpart Narendra Modi over casualties in the serious stampede in the northern state of Uttar Pradesh two days earlier.
The Consular Section of the Vietnamese Embassy in India reported on July 4 that there is no information indicating any Vietnamese citizens were among the casualties.
The incident occurred on Tuesday in the village of Phulrai Mughal Garhi in Hathras district where about 250,000 people had gathered to listen to preacher Suraj Pal Singh, also known as "Bhole Baba".
Organizers of the event had obtained permission for a gathering of only 80,000 people, an initial police report said.
Stampedes are not uncommon at religious events in India that involve large crowds and are often poorly managed./.
