Gov’t chief receives IOM Director General
VGP – Việt Nam hopes to cement and deepen ties with the International Organization for Migration (IOM) while regarding IOM as a positive partner for migration issues, said PM Nguyễn Tấn Dũng.

The Vietnamese Government chief made the remark on August 19 in Hà Nội at his reception to IOM Director General William Lacy Swing who is paying a working visit to Việt Nam.
PM Nguyễn Tấn Dũng treasured the positive coordination and fruitfull assistance of IOM for Việt Nam and highlighted the country’s aspiration to boost the cooperative ties with the organization.
According to PM Dũng, as one of the countries severly suffered from war consequences, Việt Nam has around 3.5 million nationals who are settling in 100 different countries and territories worldwide. Those people have legistimate rights to reunite with their families in Việt Nam, the host leader affirmed.
Mr. Dũng took the occasion to seek IOM’s support for the overseas Vietnamese’s family reunification while calling on greater assistance for Vietnamese guest workers in foreign markets.
In addition, PM Dũng also wanted to shake hands with IOM in fighting human trafficking and realizing the One UN Initiative in Việt Nam.
For his part, Mr. William Lacy underlined that IOM would spare no effort to advocate and realize the suggessions of the Vietnamese Government chief.
IOM is willing to offer new migrant services for Việt Nam and work with partners to evacuate Vietnamese victims from dangerous areas badly hit by wars, conflicts and natural disasters, said the IOM Director General./.
