Gov’t chief calls for eliminating substandard housing by this year's end

VGP - Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh called for concerted efforts to build around 240,000 new housing units in bid to eradicate temporary and dilapidated housing nationwide by the end of 2025.

The Prime Minister made the call while addressing the 2nd national video-teleconference of the Steering Committee on the eradication of temporary and dilapidated houses nationwide in Ha Noi on January 12.

Pham, who is head of the committee, said that 2025 is of special significance, serving as a year for acceleration and breakthroughs to successfully achieve the 5-year socio-economic development plan for 2021-2025.

It is also the year to mark the 95th founding anniversary of the Communist Party of Viet Nam, the 80th founding anniversary of the country, the 50th anniversary of the liberation of the South and national reunification, the 135th birthday of President Ho Chi Minh, and the emulation movements towards the 14th National Party Congress.

Since the first meeting of the steering committee which was held on November 10, 2024, more than 44,000 houses have been built while about 34,200 others are under construction. 

The Ministry of Labor, Invalids and Social Affairs estimated that total funding for building 240,000 new housing units in 2025 would reach over VND6.5 trillion (US$270 million )./.
