Gov’t approves emergency aid for flood-hit provinces
VGP - The Government has decided provide emergency financial assistance to support the flood-stricken provinces of Son La, Dien Bien, and Nghe An.

Under this decision, the Government will provide VND250 billion (US$9.5 million) from the national budget reserves to aid initial recovery efforts in these severely affected provinces.
Of the above amount, Dien Bien shall receive VND100 billion, Son La VND50 billion, and Nghe An VND100 billion. The funding is intended to help restore essential infrastructure and stabilize residents' lives in the wake of the recent devastating floods.
The People's Committees of Dien Bien, Son La, and Nghe An are tasked with managing and utilizing these emergency funding in strict compliance with the Law on the State Budget and other relevant regulations. They are required to ensure the funding is disbursed transparently, directed to the correct beneficiaries, and used solely for their designated purposes to prevent any misuse or corruption.
Local authorities are expected to mobilize additional resources from their provincial budgets and other lawful funding sources to promptly assist affected communities. The provinces must also report on the allocation and use of these funding to the Ministry of Finance, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, and other relevant agencies for consolidation and submission to the Prime Minister.
Over the past days, torrential rains have triggered flash floods, landslides, and widespread inundation across Dien Bien, Son La, and Nghe An, causing significant damages to human lives, property, and vital infrastructure. The disasters have severely disrupted local production and daily life in these regions.
As of July 31, the disasters have resulted in four fatalities and four injuries. Nearly 7,500 houses have been destroyed, buried, swept away, or severely damaged. Additionally, 40 schools and thousands of hectares of crops and production forests have been ruined. Critical infrastructure, including roads, schools, health centers, and government offices, has also been extensively damaged. The total preliminary damage is estimated at VND3.5 trillion (US$133.5 million)./.
