Gov't approves revised National Power Development Plan
VGP – The Government on Wednesday approved amendments to the 8th National Power Development Plan for the 2021-2030 period, with a vision to 2050.

The revised plan aims to ensure sufficient power supply for the economy to expand at around 10 percent annually on average between 2026-2030 period and 7.5 percent between 2030 and 2050.
Under the plan, commercial electricity is expected to reach about 500.4 – 557.8 billion kWh by 2030; about 1,237.7 – 1.375.1 billion kWh by 2050.
Domestic electricity generation and electricity imports are projects to reach about 560.4 – 624.6 billion kWh by 2030; about 1,360.1– 1,511.1 billion kWh by 2050.
The Government expects that peek capacity would increase to about about 85,655 MW by 2030; about 202,732 – 228,570 MW by 2050.
Regarding energy transition, the Government plans to boost renewable energy development to increase the share of renewable energy (excluding hydropower) to around 28 – 36 percent by 2030; and 74 – 75 percent by 2050.
By 2030, onshore wind power capacity is projected to reach 26,066 MW (in comparison with Viet Nam's total technical potential of about 221,000 MW).
Offshore wind power capacity to serve domestic electricity demand will reach about 6,000-17,032MW by the end of this decade; and 113,503 – 139,097 MW by 2050./.
